MEI’s Annual Conference 2023 focused on The New Middle East and the Return of Great Power Competition. Back in its in-person format after two years, the event was opened by Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law, Mr K Shanmugam, in conversation with MEI Chairman Bilahari Kausikan. The conference brought together a diverse group of international experts to engage in insightful discussions on the Middle East amidst the backdrop of the Ukraine war, the region’s evolving security dynamics, the interplay between a burgeoning oil boom, and the pressing issue of climate change, among others.
